Geox is a shoe and apparel brand that originated in and is based out of Montebelluna, Italy. The company was founded in the mid-1990s when its owner, Mario Polegato decided to market a brand of shoes with a form of technology that was previously unheard of. As a result of suffering from sweaty feet, Mr. Polegato decided that it would be a great idea to create a shoe that allowed for the soles of the shoes to breathe. That is, the soles allow for air to be introduced to the bottom of one's feet. In this manner, the shoe is able to prevent the formation of sweat that is so common in shoes that don't breathe. The secret of these shoes lies in the technology that was created to keep the wearers of the shoe comfortable. First, a team of chemists and engineers were commissioned to study the movement pattern of feet and how that movement generates heat. A study was conducted regarding the formation of perspiration on the feet as well. After these studies were completed, the shoe was constructed with a two-pronged method of keeping the feet cool and dry.

First, the rubber soles of the shoes were created with microscopic holes. These holes allow for air to come inside of the shoe while allowing heat to escape the shoe. The second method that is used to keep the feet cool and dry lies in a membrane insert that is constructed inside of all of the shoes. This membrane wicks away from the feet, while allowing the feet to remain fresh and dry.
